Tarator – Albanian cold cucumber & yogurt soup
Now, I could argue that tarator is a Bulgarian dish, well, since we are the land of yogurt. But it is also really similar to the Greek tzatziki and other delicious meals from our region. So, let’s say tarator is a traditional Balkan dish that is super easy to make, super yummy, healthy, and of course… low carb!
To make this keto summer meal as authentic as possible, it is best to use Bulgarian yogurt (duh!). But it would be rare if you have it in your local supermarket, so you can either make it on your own or just substitute with Greek yogurt or even kefir.
Let’s take a look at Sonila’s suggestion for yummy weight-loss-friendly tarator with dill, cucumbers, and some aromatic garlic cloves.
Note: feel free to add some ground walnuts for some extra nutrition and flavor!

Cold Beet Soup
Svekolnik or as we call it Tzvekolnik is another wonderful Slavic summer soup extremely popular in Russia and Lithuania. It’s often called the cold alternative to the borsch soup.
Just like tarator, this cold beet soup is also a perfect idea to eat something healthy and low in carbs during summer. We have delicious cucumbers, boiled eggs, sweet beets, and kefir to keep you full and satisfied for hours with loads of proteins, fiber, and healthy fats!
If you do not like beets (or if you are on a very strict keto diet variation), feel free to skip this ingredient. You can also swap kefir with ayryan (mix some yogurt or sour cream for some extra fat with water and whisk until homogeneous) and enjoy! I know some people do not like the flavor of kefir and its bubbly texture.

Ranch Yogurt Marinade for Grilled Chicken
This is another great low carb recipe by Taryn form JoyFilled Eats!
This is one of her favorite marinades for grilled chicken. This Ranch Yogurt Marinade has only 5 ingredients and gives the chicken a ton of flavor.
We know how dry and tasteless chicken can be sometimes. And the best thing about this awesome low crab yogurt sauce is that you can make your chicken tenders ahead and store them in the freezer ready for cooking! Saves a lot of time and you always have something to make for your family when you are in a pinch.
Great idea, Taryn!

Low Carb Sauerkraut Chicken
Sauerkraut is a staple in Bulgarian cuisine during the winter. We combine it with almost everything – meat, legumes, rice, canned tomatoes, etc. And it goes perfectly with all of them!
So, one of today’s suggestions is something really interesting developed by Zuzana from LowCarb-NoCarb – Sauerkraut Chicken with Greek yogurt! Did I grab your attention? Because it sounds delicious!
This low carb yogurt recipe is tried and tested and it is definitely something you would want to make over and over again!
It is easy to prepare and ultra healthy – filled with lots of proteins, probiotics, prebiotics, and fiber. For those of you not familiar with sauerkraut, here’s a little something from Zuzana that would make you love this superfood:
“Sauerkraut is a fermented cabbage. It is one of the great addition for all of us. Filled with an unbelievable amount of calcium and magnesium, containing also live lactobacil and is very rich in enzymes. The fiber and supply of probiotics improve digestion and promote the growth of healthy bowel flora, protecting against many diseases of the digestive tract.”
Are you convinced?

Spiced Yogurt Soup
My last (but not least) suggestion for this incredible low carb recipe round-up is this unbelievably tasty yogurt soup! Yes, it sounds a bit exotic and it actually is, at least for us folks in Europe and America.
This is an Indian dish with its amazing aromatic and healing spices like ginger, turmeric, paprika, cumin, curry, etc.
It is very easy to make, it can be tweaked and adapted to your personal preferences, and you can consume warm or cold depending on the season. These are my favorite combos, especially when it comes to keto recipes for busy folks!
As usual, this low carb recipe will refresh you with its wonderful and healing nutrients – proteins, probiotics, anti-inflammatory and anti-septic agents, healthy fats, and intoxicating aromas!
