Today I want to make a quick summary of the types of karmic relationships, and how to best deal with them.

First off, let’s make an important clarification! Karma is the result our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, decisions, and deeds. We usually associate it with our past lives, but it is also connected to what we do in this lifetime!

So, this means that the karmic relationships are people with whom we have some history – good, bad, and anything in-between. These are also the meaningful bonds we create now as a result of the inner work that we do in this lifetime (or if we refuse to do).

This leads us to the distinction between the two most common situations – the two main types of karmic relationships: a soulmate and a twin flame.

What is a twin flame?

The theory behind twin flames states that this is one soul split into two bodies, having similar trajectory, similar traumas, similar challenges, and similar life lessons. It is like looking at a mirror, but in many cases, the result of this bond may not be that pleasant. There may be significant turbulence, drama, and emotional pain.
Why is that?
Because each one of us has both a positive and a negative side. And quite often the dark side is pushed aside into the unconscious due to trauma and unresolved negative emotions (like shame).
Basically, most of us do not consciously see our unhealthy negative tendencies. However, when we see it in others, it evokes strong negative emotions. This is what Carl Jung calls “The Shadow”. What the twin flame can brilliantly show you as a mirror is your shadow self. And that’s the main purpose of these relationships – to help us become conscious of these inclinations, to heal them, and to grow! If we fail at this task, another such turbulent karmic person will appear, and the drama will unfold all over again!

What is a soulmate?

While the twin flame can be summed up as the result of mostly the negative karma that we have accumulated in previous or in this lifetime, the soulmate is at the opposite side of the spectrum.
The soulmate is a karmic person with whom we have a positive history throughout our reincarnations (or in this one). We had exchanged unconditional love, support, and understanding.
That is why these bonds feel like we have won the jackpot in the romantic arena or like a heaven-sent reward. And in a way it is – if we give positive energy to others, if we enhance their lives, if we add joy and happiness, this is what we get back… sooner or later!

And this is what I want to leave you with – relationships are the best tools for spiritual growth and positive transformation! If you mostly attract traumatic bonds, do your best to self-reflect on your part in the drama. Heal your emotional wounds and keep growing! The more you transform your pain into wisdom and the more you move towards giving love and support to others, the more positive karmic relationships you will attract!
