Today we have a very interesting topic regarding the interpretation of the natal chart!
It is the twelve astrological houses – where can we find them and what is their meaning.
So, the birth chart is not just divided by the 12 zodiac signs.
We have a second division which is often very different from the signs – the 12 astrological houses.
Unlike the signs, the houses in the horoscope can have different sizes (from 15 degrees up to 50 degrees), depending on the house system used to calculate them. The most common one is Placidus.
Each houses represents certain areas of our lives, and has an element, a ruling planet, and a native sign associated with it.
Let’s take a look at them one by one!
The First Astrological House
It is often called the Ascendant or the rising sign. You can find it in the left-most side of the natal chart, usually marked with an arrow and the ASC abbreviation.
Type – angular
Element – fire, house of life
Ruler – Mars
Native sign – Aries
Life areas – The first house represents the part of our personality we show to the outer world, our appearance, our childhood, new beginnings, our worldview, the friends of our siblings, our maternal grandfather, our paternal grandmother, etc.
The Second Astrological House
Type – succedent
Element – earth, house of substance
Ruler – Venus
Native sign – Taurus
Life areas – The second house represents values, freedom, internal and external resources, opportunities, assets, possessions, your mother’s friends, etc. You can find the detailed analysis of the second house in my book “Astrology of Abundance“.
The Third Astrological House
Type – cadent
Element – air, house of relationships
Ruler – Mercury
Native sign – Gemini
Life areas – The third house represents short-distance travels, our communication, consciousness, primary education, siblings, etc.
The Fourth Astrological House
It is often called Imum Coeli. You can find it at the bottom of the natal chart, usually marked as IC.
Type – angular
Element – water, house of endings
Ruler – the Moon
Native sign – Cancer
Life areas – The fourth house represents our home, personal space, one of the parents (usually the mother), the final years of our life, your father-in-law, etc.
The Fifth Astrological House
Type – succedent
Element – fire, house of life
Ruler – the Sun
Native sign – Leo
Life areas – The fifth house represents sports and recreation, children, creativity, entertainment, romance, the love that you give to others, speculations, your spouse’s friends, your mother’s assets, etc.
The Sixth Astrological House
Type – cadent
Element – earth, house of substance
Ruler – Mercury
Native sign – Virgo

The Seventh Astrological House
It is also called the Descendant, and you can find it at the exact opposite side of the rising sign, usually marked as DSC.
Type – angular
Element – air, house of relationships
Ruler – Venus
Native sign – Libra
Life areas – The seventh house represents marriage, your spouse, partnerships, public relations, competitors, open enemies, your maternal grandmother, your paternal grandfather, etc.
The Eighth Astrological House
Type – succedent
Element – water, house of endings
Ruler – Pluto
Native sign – Scorpio
Life areas – The eighth house represents intimate relationships, taxes, inheritances, transformation, support from others, other people’s assets, soulmates, your father’s friends, etc.
The Ninth Astrological House
Type – cadent
Element – fire, house of life
Ruler – Jupiter
Native sign – Sagittarius
Life areas – The ninth house represents religion, philosophy, super consciousness, long-distance travels, legislation, other countries, your sister-in-law or brother-in-law, etc.
The Tenth Astrological House
It is also called Medium Coeli or Midheaven. You can find it at the very top of the birth chart, usually marked as MC or MH.
Type – angular
Element – earth, house of substance
Ruler – Saturn
Native sign – Capricorn

The Eleventh Astrological House

Ruler – Uranus
Native sign – Aquarius
Life areas – The eleventh house represents your goals, hopes and dreams, friends, the love we receive from others, clubs and organizations, the assets of your father, etc.
The Twelfth Astrological House
Type – cadent
Element – water, house of endings
Ruler – Neptune
Native sign – Pisces
Life areas – The twelfth house represents restrictions, the unconscious mind, suffering, inner strength, hidden enemies, closed spaces, behind the scenes, your paternal aunts and uncles, etc.
