Turmeric powder comes from India and is made from the roots of the plant Turmeric. The herb is traditionally called Indian saffron because its deep yellow-orange color is very similar to the saffron’s tint. Turmeric is usually used as a spice and textile dye, but it’s also an acknowledged Ayurvedic medicinal herb. It has very interesting spicy and a little bitter taste and soft aroma, reminding us of an orange and ginger.
Different sorts of the plant have slightly different coloring, but this is not related to their quality, and it does not affect the benefits of Turmeric. The herb’s tint comes from its main ingredient – curcumin. Another traditional Indian herb (curry) also contains curcumin, but the highest quantity can be found in turmeric (3.14% of its weight).
It is important to say that Turmeric is not allergenic and does not contain goitrogens (thyroid suppressing substances), oxalates (which contribute to kidney stones formation) and purines (contraindicated for people with gout). The herb is also an excellent source of iron, manganese and vitamin B6.
The Turmeric powder health benefits do not end here. It also contains phosphorus, iodine, vitamin C, B, B2, and B3. Other beneficial substances in turmeric are the antioxidants, which neutralize the free radicals preventing premature aging. Turmeric is one nature’s natural antibiotics, which also help the stomach activity. The herb also boosts our metabolism and it can be a perfect ally for maintaining our youth and beauty.

Turmeric powder health benefits for the skin
If you have blemished skin or any kind of skin disease, you can make a simple anti-inflammatory remedy. Just mix some turmeric powder with a little water to make a paste consistency and apply to the problematic area of the skin. If the paste is too strong for your derma or you have any unwanted symptoms, wash off the paste immediately.
Most of the Turmeric powder health benefits are due to its volatile oils, which have potent anti-inflammatory activity – the herb is excellent for treating colon inflammation, arthritis, cystic fibrosis, lowers the risk of developing cancer (especially if combined with onions). When combined with cauliflower, turmeric can even prevent prostate cancer. It also lowers the risk of childhood leukemia. Turmeric is perfect for detoxifying and blood purification, boosting the function of the liver, lowers the cholesterol levels, prevents Alzheimer’s and many many other health benefits.
Turmeric is not suitable for pregnant women, people with gall conditions, people who take blood-thinning medications and children under the age of six.
