What is Kitchari Cleanse? (Ayurvedic Detox Breakfast Recipe)
What is the kitchari detox cleanse?
Kitchari is a traditional Ayurvedic recipe for a gentle detox.
According to the ancient Indian natural medicine, the most important part of healing is prevention. And I totally agree with that!
The best prevention (according to Ayurveda) happens when we take out all toxic substances from the body and balance the three main human constitutions (doshas) – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
You don’t need to know your type to use Kitchari at your advantage. It is suitable for each one of them, because it gently balances all three of theml.
This ancient Indian ritual is a good example of a gentle body cleanse where you don’t need to starve and experience harsh detox symptoms (like headaches, for example).
It is extremely suitable for people with digestion issues.
What are you going to need for the Kitchari 7 day cleanse?
Even people with slow metabolism can take this dish for it is easily digestible.
To reap all the kitchari detox benefits, you can use white rice or the Basmati type, because brown rice may cause some irritation for people with sensitive stomachs.
The other main ingredient is the Mung beans. You can use the green or yellow ones (yellow mung dahl). Use the green type if you have strong digestion, and soak it overnight. The yellow one has its skin removed, so it is more suitable for people with poor digestion and sensitive stomachs. Beside their excellent nutritional value, the best thing about these beans is, unlike the other types of legumes, they do not cause bloating and flatulence. Moreover, its taste is far sweeter than the most common beans. Ymmm!
When it comes to nutrition, Kitchari is perfectly balanced – it contains a combination of carbohydrates and amino acids.
The rice supplies the important carbohydrates and amino acids such as methionine, tryptophan, and cysteine.
On the other hand, the beans contribute with the essential protein lysine.
The third main ingredient is also very important – pure ghee butter. According to Ayurveda this pure fatty substance extracts the toxins accumulated in the body, and takes them out through the gastrointestinal tract.
The spices, which had been dissolved in the butter, will enhance this process with their natural healing and cleansing properties.
So, just to recap – this detoxing meal is an excellent alternative for those who are not able to do harsh cleansing procedures, which usually involve abstaining from food. Let’s begin!
